I am a Wing Tjun enthousiast, even though I don’t like defining myself by something external, Wing Tjun has given my a way to start finding myself in a different way than I have ever done in my life. You can read more about that on my blog but what Wing Tjun has given me is a broader insight in me as a person interacting with my surroundings. It has opened me up to new ideas and has helped me in both interpreting and responding to what I hear, read and see. It also helped me recover from a a burn-out and come out of that more resilient, stronger and more flexible.
On this blog I write about my Wing Tjun practice and on top of that I write about my profession (business development and strategy), my interests technology and science, and sometimes about more personal items. No worries if you only want to read some of the topics, I use categories and tags.
Although I am in finance, one of my specialties is the influence of the Internet on financial streams and what our current and the future society will expect from financials. So you will find stuff on the impact of the Internet on society as well.
Since I have graduated high school (Stedelijk Gymnasium Johan van Oldenbarnevelt, Amersfoort, the Netherlands) I have focussed my energy on the Internet. I have studied Computer Science and Digital Communications, graduated in 2003. This was the time Linkedin started, ICQ and MSN were huge and Steve Jobs was not at Apple. It was a time in which the Internet started to permeate society with content and Google became the #1 search engine in the world.
I started working at ABN AMRO in 2003 at the peak of Banking in the world. IT capabilities were in high demand and for a couple of years finance was still ahead of the Internet development. I learned a great deal about business and strategy in that time. After the takeover of ABN AMRO in 2007 my profesional interests shifted to Corporate Development and after divesting parts of the company and helping defining a strategy to prepare the bank for the near future I felt very dissaligned with my working environment. That caused my burn-out and forced me to start finding myself all over. In that time I started Wing-Tjun, my girlfriend chantal (chantalsoeters.com) started health coaching and I recovered very quickly mostly because of that.
At the time I am writing this I am at ABN AMRO Commercial Finance performing Strategy & Business Development. My main interest is to look forward in the way Finance will change and what we should be in that market. I will write on that and more on a broad view of business. I wish you much reading pleasure and hope to read your comments on the blog!
